Packlands

Board Threads Posts Last Post
No New Posts Ocaté Packlands

The Ocaté Pack lives out on the moor, where they can clearly see the sky from where they stand. They love to run across the vast area, covered in heather and bracken. Unlike most of their kind, they enjoy sleeping out in the open, unless the weather is bad. Then they use burrows they have dug in the ground to wait out the storm. Moss is used as lining within the underground dens, which can seem like a network of tunnels. Only low-lying shrubs and grasses grow here, but the Ocaté Pack doesn't mind at all. The only trees that grow here are dwarf trees, and only a few can be found on the moor. They harbor very little other than insects.

Food: Rabbits, Mice, and Birds.

No New Posts Ignate Packlands - 1 Viewing

The Ignate Pack lives in a swampy area of Midgard. Trees tower above, seeming to stretch all the way to Asgard. Moss clings to the branches and trunks of these trees, like damp green curtains. Fog tends to hang around this pack's territory all the time, even in the winter, and even then the temperatures rarely get to freezing. The temperature is usually rather comfortable in this wet, muddy place. Trees have fallen in places, and upon first glance you'd think only the insane would live here. Snakes tend to watch hungrily from the trees, waiting to attack trespassers—and if lucky, a pup or two from the pack living here.

Food: Beavers, Fish, Frogs, Birds, and Snakes.

No New Posts Drei Packlands

A wide mountain towers above the flatter lands, shadowing them when the sun sets and rises. The tip is constantly brushed by low clouds, and is always covered by white snow or ice. As it descends, the ice disappears and moss-covered rocks take over the mountainside. Soon plants begin to grow. The base of this mountain is blanketed by thick forest and brush, making it a wonderful hunting and hiding
place. Within these trees is a little waterfall. Don't be fooled though, this waterfall has more purpose than providing clean water. Under the falling water is a cave. It is there that the bitches give birth to their brood.
To the east side of the mountain, a section of the forest is nothing more than charred trees and ashen ground. Only a couple years ago did this forest burn down, killing all but a few of the wolves of Drei Pack.

Food: Deer, Elk, Rabbit, and Squirrel.

Midgard

No New Posts Jotunheim - 1 Viewing

Jotunheim is one of the nine worlds, the homeland of the frost giants and rock giants. Situated in Midgard, on the middle level of the Norse universe, Jotunheim is separated from Asgard by the river Iving, which never freezes over. It lies in the snowy regions on the outermost shores of the ocean. Mimir's well of wisdom is in Jotunheim, beneath the Midgard root of the ash tree Yggdrasil.

Jotunheim is ruled by Thrym ("uproar"), the feared king of the frost giants. The stronghold of Utgard, the chief city of Jotunheim and the abode of the giants, is ruled by the giant Utgard-Loki. Other strongholds include Gastropnir, home of the giantess Menglad, and Thrymheim ("house of uproar"), mountain stronghold of the giant Thiazi.

No New Posts Svartalfheim

The black elves of Norse mythology who grew from the maggots of Ymir's flesh. They live in the earth and in stones. Although they have the shape of men, they are often misshapen. Their home is Svartalfheim, which lies under the earth, and here they stay during daylight on pain of being turned to stone.

The Svartalfar are often identified with the dvergar (dwarfs) and are hard to distinguish from the Döckálfar (the earth-dwelling ones).

No New Posts "Yggdrasil" (Training Place of Messengers) - 1 Viewing

Since Messengers can not truly get to Yggdrasil until they are Full Messengers, they come here and learn of their powers and how to control them. It is the place closest to the Gods in Midgard next to Bifrost.

No New Posts Niflheim - 1 Viewing

Niflheim ("house of mists") is the far northern region of icy fogs and mists, darkness and cold. It is situated on the lowest level of the universe. The realm of death, Helheim is part of the vast, cold region. Niflheim lies underneath the third root of Yggdrasil, close to the spring Hvergelmir ("roaring cauldron"). Also situated on this level is Nastrond, the Shore of Corpses, where the serpent Nidhogg eats corpses and gnaws on the roots of Yggdrasil.

After Ragnarok, there will be a hall here for the punishment of murderers, oath breakers, and philanderers.

No New Posts Ginnungagap

Ginnungagap ("seeming emptiness"), in the cosmology of Norse mythology, is the primordial void separating Niflheim and Muspell, the land of eternal ice and snow and the land of eternal heat and flame.

In the beginning, before the world of men and gods existed, the spring Hvergelmir, deep in the frozen wastes of Niflheim, gave rise to eleven rivers known as the Elivagar. Over a long period of time, water of the Elivagar ran across Niflheim and poured into the northern part of Ginnungagap. The water froze, forming vast sheets of ice in the void. Hot air from Muspell melted some of the ice, creating a zone of meltwater amid the ice and snow. Here life began, and the first living thing was a frost giant.

No New Posts Muspellheim

In Norse mythology, Muspell or Muspellheim ("home of desolation") is a flaming, torrid region, the land of fire far to the south. It is opposed to Niflheim and whose animating beams made the ice in Niflheim melt and created the first living beings. The celestial bodies were made from its sparks which flew out into space. Muspell is ruled by the fire giant Surt, whose wife is Sinmore.

At the final battle of Ragnarok Surt will set the World Tree on fire and kill the unarmed god Freyr.

Beyond Midgard

No New Posts Yggdrasil

In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil ("The Terrible One's Horse"), also called the World Tree, is the giant ash tree that links and shelters all the worlds. Beneath the three roots the realms of Asgard, Jotunheim, and Niflheim are located. Three wells lie at its base: the Well of Wisdom (Mímisbrunnr), guarded by Mimir; the Well of Fate (Urdarbrunnr), guarded by the Norns; and the Hvergelmir (Roaring Kettle), the source of many rivers.

Four deer run across the branches of the tree and eat the buds; they represent the four winds. There are other inhabitants of the tree, such as the squirrel Ratatosk ("swift teeth"), a notorious gossip, and Vidofnir ("tree snake"), the golden cock that perches on the topmost bough. The roots are gnawed upon by Nidhogg and other serpents. On the day of Ragnarok, the fire giant Surt will set the tree on fire.

No New Posts Alfheim

Alfheim ("elf home"), in Norse mythology, is one of the nine worlds. It is located on the highest level of the Norse universe. Also found on this level are the worlds of Asgard and Vanaheim. Alfheim is the palace of the god Freyr and the homeland of the elves of light. Neither the elves of light nor the elves of darkness, who live in Svartalfheim, participate in any of the events described in the Norse myths. Elves do, however, have active roles in the literature of quite a few of the other branches of Indo-European mythology.

While wolves do not live here, sometimes messengers travel here to speak to the elves.

No New Posts Asgard

Asgard, in Norse mythology, is one of the nine worlds and the homeland of the Aesir, the race of warrior gods. Located on the highest level of the Norse universe, it is surrounded by a high wall of closely fitted stone blocks. The walls surrounding Asgard were built by Blast (or Hrimthurs), who asked in payment the hand of Freya plus the sun and the moon. Odin agreed providing the walls be complete in six months. Hrimthurs had a magic horse, named Svadilfari, who helped him in his work. To Odin's (and the other gods, especially Freya's) horror, with but a few days left, Blast was almost finished. Loki, the trickster, turned himself into a mare and beguiled the stallion Svadilfari away. The job was not completed in time and no payment was given.

It is very unlikely for a messenger to come here, though head messengers or messenger fathers may come here from time to time to speak with the Gods.

No New Posts Vanaheim

Vanaheim ("home of the Vanir") is the land of the Vanir. It is located in Asgard, on the highest level of the universe.

In Norse myth, the Vanir are originally a group of wild nature and fertility gods and goddesses, the sworn enemies of the warrior gods of the Aesir. They were considered to be the bringers of health, youth, fertility, luck and wealth, and masters of magic.

No New Posts Bifrost

In Norse mythology, Bifrost is the bridge between Midgard, the realm of man, and Asgard, the realm of the gods. Since it is the only way for the giants to enter Asgard it is closely guarded by Heimdall, the watchman of the gods.

Bifrost was made of three colors with magic and great skill by the Aesir and is incredibly strong. It is also called Asbru, referring to its makers. At the end of the cosmos, this rainbow-bridge will collapse.

It is this bridge that messengers use to cross over into the realm of Asgard with from Midgard.
