Messenger Father The Alpha Male and father of the pups within the pack. Mated for life to the pack's Immortal Mother, the Alpha pair share a strong bond and lead the pack together. It is not uncommon for him to be immortal like his mate, but as a Messenger, his title is more closely associated with his powers and duty. Some packs will also include the Messenger Father's siblings, but the Alpha Male is usually the eldest of his siblings and they generally do not receive the same chances to reproduce.
Messenger Mother Very rare, an alpha female with the powers of a Messenger. Rare, but not impossible.
Immortal Mother The Alpha Female and mother of the pups within the pack. She has no powers, but is essential to the functioning of the pack. She is a constant support to her mate, the Messenger Father. She raises and cares for their offspring and maintains the pack if he is away. Since Messengers are largely male, when a female is born to the pack it is seen as a sign that the Immortal Mother will soon be passing on her immortality to her daughter. With the loss of her immortality, the Immortal Mother soon dies. Occasionally, the young Immortal Mother will decide to leave her pack and start a new one. In this case, her mother will not die or pass on her powers to her daughter.
Immortal Father Similar to the Immortal Mother, who has no powers from the Deity they are connected to, and is also rare but not impossible.
Immortal Daughter/Son These are the pups that are not given the power of the Messengers at birth. Most males get this power, while females become Immortal Mothers once their mother dies of will or is killed in battle. It is not impossible for males to become this way, however.
Messengers in Training The young pups who are destined to serve a Deity. A pup is considered a Messenger in Training until their powers are fully awakened and their colors have grown in completely. As soon as pups are old enough to begin training, they are considered Messengers in Training. They are raised by their parents and trained by their father. Once their training is finished and they gain all their colors, they become "Full Messengers."
Full Messenger A Messenger that has finished their training and has their full colors. Usually, a Full Messenger has 3 - 5 different colors, while Messengers in Training only have 2.
Head Messenger The highly regarded position of power within the Messenger community, the leader of the Messengers. Stationed in Tara, the Head Messenger controls the missions assigned to Messengers, sends out messages and orders to the various Messenger packs, and approves of treaties, alliances, and handles disagreements. Meant to be the final say on all things and an upholder of justice.
Traditionally, this is a solitary role taken by a male member of one of the Pacls, who serve the father god Odin.
Gods Immortal Deities of Ancient Scandinavia, encompassing a wide variety of specialties. They have a manifest form, which allows them to be comprehended by the mortal creature they are speaking with. Though their exact origins are unknown, they have existed in Scandinavia for as long as anyone knows. Messenger Lore says that the gods created the world but shortly found they could not interact as directly as they wanted with the world.
With their numbers fairly high, the gods are prone to bickering and in-fighting. This trickles down to the creatures in Scandinavia and often mucks up a good deal of the general order. Fixing the resulting problems is often the major function of Messengers.
Normal Wolves Wolves not related to the Messengers have little contact with their Messenger brethren. In Messenger lore, the packs existed before normal wolves, and are thus a slightly different species. Wolves don't live as long as the these packs and speak a different dialect of Wolf (akin to English in England and English in America). It is believed that the existence of normal wolves is the result of powerless Messengers. Pups born without powers usually leave their packs to join packs of normal wolves but this is generally the extent of their interaction.
