OOC: This post is almost a year old, but I don't see any harm in reusing it here, with a few adjustments. Open to all. I know it's short, so matching my post length should not be difficult.
IC: Gliding on a gentle breeze, a luna moth meandered carelessly through the boggy air, coming to rest on the dark eartips of a small dire wolf resting beneath a short, sparsely leafed bush. Finding purchase on the fuzzy surface, which she thought to be nothing more than a tuft of dandelion, the insect paused there for a moment before the so-called flower began to twitch, tossing her unceremoniously into the air. She fluttered helplessly for a brief second before righting herself and, disgusted, flitted away to find a more stable perch to await the coming of night.
The ears were swiveling now, forward and back, alert for any sign of danger as a pair of silver eyes blinked themselves awake. Stretching the ache from his pale limbs, the dire curled his lips back in a wide yawn, revealing dozens of pearlescent teeth, and stood to shake away the dust that had gathered on his pelt. Wearily turning his head, he noted that the sun was setting on the western horizon behind him, with golden rays slanting hazily over the mire. A pain gnawing at his stomach informed him of his hunger, but he took no heed of it and settled down again. Kazimir was in no particular hurry this evening, for the scent of rabbit whisked past his nose in the wind. Prey was plentiful here -- not as populous as he would have liked, but it was a great improvement from the scanty leftover victuals he was forced to eat in burnt forests of the mountains. If I'm lucky, Kazi mused silently, my dinner will come to me.

As the beautiful moth fluttered through the air, it was suddenly snatched out of the air and swallowed in a rather cruel way. The predator that had eaten it whole shook his head to the bitter taste, regretting the fact he ate a bug at all. Why did it seem everything tasted better when you were a mindless puppy?
Cival sighed quietly, mentally shrugging at the question he had asked himself. Silently, the brute stalked through the weeds of the moor. He paid no heed to the fact another wolf may be in the area, nor did he honestly care. If he got lucky, he'd bump into the alpha of this territory. Or, he'd just end up bumping into another wolf all together. Either way, it may prove to be interesting.
The wolf stopped on a small hill and glanced around his surroundings, keeping a sharp eye out for any prey. A little movement caught his attention, and without really looking to see what it was, he dropped low to the ground and began stalking it, thinking it may be prey. It wasn't until he came right up, on the other brute did he realize how wrong he was. Cival stared for some time, then lifted himself to his full height.
Without a word spoken, Cival turned and returned to exploring the lands. Maybe he could sneak off without being no- craaack -ticed. Or he could just step on a stick and bring the attention of the entire moor to him. Cival glanced over his shoulder toward the other brute, pondering what may happen; did the brute even hear that snap?

His lids fluttering with careless fatigue, Kazimir found himself slowly nodding off, with one paw resting lazily in an ethereal river miles away from the bog and the other twitching nervously on the moor's moss. As time passed, the clamor of birdsong grew in volume, and the hum and whir of insects faded away. From where he rested on the damp bank, he could discern a smooth whispering of water over stone. And faintly, very faintly, the sharp snap of a twig...
Reality seemed to twine its twisted roots around his limbs, clinging to him as if demanding compensation for leaving his cruel existence behind. Kazimir struggled against its pull, his talons clawing desperately at the soft mud of the bank. Above him, a frenzied cawing split the air, and black feathers began to fall like rain. No! He would not return just yet! His dream had only just begun!
The omega emerged from his revere as though his head had been submerged, gasping deeply, panting as if waking from a nightmare. He was on his back, his front paws dangling pathetically above his head and his back legs tangled hopelessly in the brambly bush under which he slept. Howling in surprise, Kazimir flipped over, flailing and yelping as the branches seemed to tighten their grasp. After much excessive thrashing, he finally managed to free himself, and his eyes darted this way and that with uncertainty and fear.
There had been a witness to his foolishness; he was sure of this. His demeanor immediately changed as he pressed himself to the earth, as if willing it to absorb him into the very soil like rain. There he crouched, ears pinned back submissively, tail tucked between trembling legs, a barely audible whine escaping his throat.

Before he could stop himself, Cival had turned back around to watch the wolf. Amusement struck him as the wolf thrashed against the brush, and he began to chuckle. When he was once again calm, he moved toward the wolf and sat down only a few feet from him.
"Hello, there," he spoke casually and continued to watch the submissive canine. He waited for the beast's reaction. Only after Kazimir reacted would he speak his name. As Cival observed the brute, he let his mind wander. Unfortunately, the path his mind took wasn't exactly the one he expected it would take.
The fire, the pain... Cival was quick to shake the thoughts from his mind. The elk-colored brute returned his gaze to Kaz and grinned. The last thing anyone needed to think about was something depressing. Especially something as depressing as a fire. Right now, Cival needed to focus on socializing with other wolves.
